    So my husband did not invent the term “hay flake”!

      Nope! It’s a real, if somewhat flexible, unit term. (For those not familiar with square/rectangular hay bales, a flake is like a slice of the bale. The forage gets rammed into flakes in the baler, making the hay easier to handle when being distributed later on. Usually 13-14 flakes per bale on average.)
